Camp Imbalanga

Camp Imbalanga Congo Brazzaville is a fully catered forest lodge with six ensuite canvas chalets. Nestled under a thick canopy of towering trees, the camp offers an intimate wilderness stay for up to 12 guests. Each chalet sits on a raised wooden deck, with a palm-frond roof and a short forest walk separating it from the central area. That layout gives guests privacy while keeping them close to the heart of the camp. The camp is located in Odzala-Kokoua National Park one of Congo Brazzaville most biodiverse protected area.
The central lodge area also rests on a raised deck. It includes an airy dining room, a comfortable lounge, a kitchen area, a small shop, and a firepit for relaxed evenings in the forest.
Just a three-minute walk from camp, guests can reach Imbalanga Baï, one of the many baïs in Odzala-Kokoua National Park. This makes Camp Imbalanga Congo Brazzaville an excellent base for travelers who want to observe wildlife in a remote and authentic rainforest setting. From here, visitors may see western lowland gorillas, forest elephants, and other secretive forest species.
Camp closes every year from 21 December to 4 January.
Activities at Camp Imbalanga Congo Brazzaville

Camp Imbalanga offers several rewarding experiences for nature lovers and wildlife travelers.
1. Visit baïs for wildlife viewing
A baï is a swampy forest clearing where wildlife gathers to drink water and feed on mineral-rich soil. This creates one of the best opportunities to observe elusive species such as forest elephants, forest buffaloes, bongos, and gorillas. Imbalanga Baï is close to camp and easy to reach on foot, while farther baïs are best visited on full-day excursions. Here gorillas are seen from the baï as they not habituated, in opposite to Ngaga camp which is best for gorilla trekking as the gorillas in that sector are habituated to human presence.
2. Birdwatching and nature hikes
The forest surrounding the camp offers excellent birdwatching and nature walks. Guests may also encounter primates such as lowland gorillas, chimpanzees, and several monkey species. These activities make Camp Imbalanga Congo Brazzaville especially appealing to travelers who enjoy slow, immersive exploration.
3. River cruises
River excursions add another dimension to the experience. They offer good chances to spot birds, primates, and crocodiles while enjoying the calm of the Congo rainforest waterways.
Recommended length of stay
Kwafrika Travel recommends 4 to 5 nights at Camp Imbalanga. That gives guests a better chance of seeing wildlife and enjoying the destination without rushing. This is a wild and remote area, so sightings of gorillas and forest elephants are never guaranteed on any single day. A longer stay is possible, but most activities focus on the baïs and the big rivers, which means daily travel can become tiring.
Because the forest around camp is very dense, time at camp itself is best used for rest and short visits to Imbalanga Baï.
Health and safety
Malaria and yellow fever are present in Congo in general and in the area, although the risk remains low. Tsetse flies also occur along the rivers. There is no medical facility on site, but emergency evacuation can be organized if you have opted for a medical insurance.
