Chimpanzee trekking safaris are conducted in dense tropical forests, their natural habitat. These safaris are conducted with the help of trained guides who will take you through the forest trails and find different chimpanzee families along the way.
Chimpanzees live in communities called bands (15 to 80 members) and subgroups. They groom one another, use gestures, vocalizations, and facial expressions to communicate, and consume fruits, leaves, insects, and sometimes small animals.
Top destinations for chimpanzee trekking include Kibale National Park, Kalinzu Forest, Budongo Forest, Kyambura Gorge, Nyungwe National Park (Rwanda), Gombe and Mahale (Tanzania), and Virunga (DRC). Chimpanzee habituation experiences are available in some parks.
Best time to go for chimp trekking varies by park but dry months are typically recommended, talk to one of our experts for more specific details.
