Detailed Daily Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Customer arrives in Bangui

Your journey as a Kwafrika Travel customer begins at Ombella M’Poko International Airport. our representative will meet you for a 25-minute overland transfer to your hotel. After checking in, join us for a welcome briefing and dinner to prepare for the adventure ahead.

Day 2: The Ubangi River & Boali Falls

On this day, we will embark you on an exciting morning with an excursion to the mighty Ubangi River, boarding a wooden boat for a 90-minute journey to observe the local rhythm of life, including artisanal fishermen, sand diggers, and cargo boats. Later, drive northwest toward Boali, passing through village clusters and the resting place of former President Felix Patassé. This landscape, a blend of lush greenery and quartz-decorated landmarks, offers a perfect introduction to the country’s character.

Day 3: Into the Land of the Ba’Aka

On day 3, you have an opportunity to head southwest toward the Mbaiki prefecture. This region is the ancestral home of the Ba’Aka people. While the road is paved, the journey is slow due to potholes giving you ample time to observe local life. In the evening, you will see lorries carrying goods from Cameroon and motorbikes stacked high with firewood or “Kangouea” (local palm wine). We will visit Bossongo to begin our first cultural interactions with the indigenous forest communities.

Day 4: Flight to the Deep Forest

After breakfast, we board a 1.5-hour private chartered flight to Bayanga, the gateway to Dzanga-Sangha rainforest reserves . This flight is a vital component of your 8-Day Safari Itinerary in the CAR, as it bypasses hundreds of miles of dense terrain.
Upon landing, we transfer to Doli Lodge on the banks of the Sangha River. In the afternoon, we explore Bayanga town. You can stroll through the local market or enjoy a glass of palm wine with the locals before relaxing at the lodge bar as the sun sets over the river.

Day 5: The Magic of Dzanga Baï

Board a 4WD, navigating a bumpy forest track toward Dzanga Baï before a short trek through a shallow stream to a stilt platform overlooking a massive mineral clearing. From this vantage point, watch dozens sometimes hundreds of African Forest Elephants, keeping binoculars ready for the elusive Bongo antelope, giant forest hogs, and Buffalos. To end the day, the Ba’Aka Pygmies will perform traditional dances and chants around a massive woodfire back at the lodge.

Day 6: Tracking Western Lowland Gorillas

Begin your day with a rare wildlife experience: tracking Western Lowland Gorillas at Bai Hokou. Led by expert Ba’Aka trackers, you will hike through the dark, prehistoric rainforest. The trek can last from 45 minutes to several hours, but the reward is unmatched: one full hour observing a habituated gorilla family, there are three fully habituated gorilla groups available for tourism. Once you start walking, the time it takes to locate the gorillas varies based on where they nested the night before. On average, it takes between 1 to 3 hours of walking through the rainforest. Some lucky groups find them in as little as 15 minutes, while other days require a more strenuous effort through the thick canopy.
Additionally, we visit a nearby camp to watch Agile Mangabeys in their natural habitat. We conclude the day with a peaceful pirogue ride on the Sangha River.

Day 7: Net Hunting & Return to Bangui

Before leaving the forest, join the Ba’Aka on a traditional net hunting expedition. This is not just a hunt; it is a masterclass in forest survival. Simultaneously, you will learn about the medicinal plants used to treat everything from fevers to snakebites. In the late morning, we board our private charter back to Bangui for a final evening of leisure.

Day 8: Bangui “La Coquette” & Departure
Before your onward flight, explore Bangui, the landmarks of the capital. Once known as “Bangui La Coquette” (Bangui the Beautiful), the city still retains a unique charm. We will visit bustling open-air markets and viewpoints overlooking the hills and valleys. The welcoming nature of the local people representing over 40 ethnic groups ensures your journey ends on a high note.
