Gabon Wildlife Expedition: Rainforests & Loango’s Wild Coast
13 DaysThe Republic of Gabon in the Congo Basin is a premier African travel destination known for its legal protection of 13 national parks and 88% rainforest coverage. Booking a Gabon Wildlife Expedition ensures travelers experience this ecologically intact sector of Central Africa. This curated journey focuses on exploring pristine rainforests and observing unique wildlife within protected reserves.
Consequently, Kwafrika Travel coordinates every Gabon Wildlife Expedition to balance deep biodiversity tracking with coastal exploration. This itinerary leads you straight to the spectacular wild coast of Loango, where marine and terrestrial biomes collide. By exploring pristine rainforests alongside expert local trackers, you will discover the country’s most isolated ecosystems.
What species will you encounter on the Gabon Wildlife Expedition?
Initially, your expedition targets Lopé National Park, a 4,910-square-kilometer UNESCO World Heritage site blending savannah and forest. Here, researchers regularly document mandrill hordes exceeding 1,000 individuals alongside forest elephants (Loxodonta cyclotis). Therefore, early morning drives maximize your chances of documenting these massive primate aggregations across the Lopé landscape.
Next, the route transitions south into the 4,500-square-kilometer Moukalaba-Doudou National Park, which contains one of the planet’s highest densities of western lowland gorillas. Local trackers guide you through the dense undergrowth, deciphering fresh nests and vocalizations to locate habituated families. Because we limit our groups to four participants, your 60-minute habituation encounter remains profoundly intimate and low-impact.
